Top 10 Machinery Stocks To Invest In Right Now

There were several important developments over the weekend that could influence the activity at the start of the new week.

First, Australia drove out the Labor government, with its largely self-inflicted wounds, and gave the Liberal/National coalition what appears to be the largest parliamentary majority since 1996. The new government is committed to cutting spending and taxes, especially the carbon/mining levies. This potential, coupled with what many see as a shift in the central bank's stance, is creating an attractive opportunity for investors. The calculus for direct investment in the mining sector may change and the rise in interest rates is creating interesting carry opportunities. The one-year note offered the best yield in nearly two months (~2.5%) on the eve of the election and the Australian dollar had its highest close since Aug. 9. The speculative community is short, leaving room for a further short squeeze.

Second, China reported a larger-than-expected August trade surplus of $28.6 billion (vs. consensus estimate of ~$20 billion). Exports rose 7.2% from a year ago (vs. consensus estimate of 6%), while imports rose 7% (vs. consensus 11.3%). Export strength as seen in electronics, textiles and machinery. Exports to ASEAN countries rose 30.8% (year over year). Exports to the U.S. rose 6.1% (compared with 5.3% in July). Exports to the EU rose 2.5%, roughly the same as the July pace and consistent with the modest recovery seen in the PMI data. On the other hand, exports to Japan slowed for the seventh consecutive month.

Top 10 India Stocks To Own For 2016

Below is the verbatim transcript of Rego's interview with CNBC-TV18.

Q: Given that yields for government bonds are practically at an all time low and with interest rates beginning to come down, how should investors approach the debt mutual funds and any specific recommendations that you could give us?

A: Interest rates have come off a reasonable bit, thanks to the rate cuts by the Reserve Bank of India Governor. Therefore, one would find that income funds are doing well at this point of time. However, over six month period the interest rate will continue to come down but I am not sure about longer term, one year or more than one year period.

So, in a scenario like this I would suggest to look at short-term income funds or even dynamic bond funds. One can look at Birla Sun Life Dynamic Bond Fund or ICICI Prudential Ultra Short Term Plan . One can also look at funds like Templeton India Short Term Income Fund .

Trading at a P/E (TTM) of 16 the company is not cheap at first glance, yet given all the information indicating significant earnings growth in 2013 the multiple of 16 becomes much less threatening. There is also the book value of about $10 / share and the recent offer by Landry of $22 a share to add some insurance on the downside. Given current earnings the valuation may be in line, but given the prospects of earnings increasing significantly, the stock is worth more.

Using the conventional P/E method, if we subtract the $39 billion in cash that Oracle has from the $155 billion market cap, we see that the company operations can be purchased for $116 billion. Because Oracle has a net income of $11 billion (TTM), the company is actually trading at a P/E of 10.54 as opposed to the current 14.46. Oracle also has an estimated Forward P/E (1 year) of 10.65.

While there's no denying that Vringo, Inc. (NASDAQ:VRNG) and VirnetX Holding Corporation (NYSEMKT:VHC) have made a big name for themselves - not to mention made big, even if uneven, gains for shareholder of VHC and VRNG - within the worked of intellectual property enforcement, bigger isn't always better. Smaller companies in the IP arena hav! e a focus and flexibility that larger players like VirnetX and Vringo could never enjoy. Take, for instance, Endeavor IP Inc. (OTCBB:ENIP). This little patent owner may not look like much at first glance, but just ask the four organizations that have already entered licensing deals with ENIP and/or the four, well, now five companies that are currently litigating against Endeavor IP.... this little outfit packs a huge punch.

  • [By James E. Brumley]

When traders think of an IP (intellectual property) company, they tend to conjure up names like InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ:IDCC), VirnetX Holding Corporation (NYSEMKT:VHC), or of course, the well-known Vringo, Inc. (NASDAQ:VRNG). And, investors see these patent-enforcement names as such for good reason.... between VRNG, IDCC, and VHC, the three organizations own well over 20,000 technology patents, and their efforts to enforce them have been well-documented, and well publicized. Thing is, as the patent-protection industry matures, companies like Vringo, InterDigital, or VirnetX Holding may well find that it's the quality of the patent portfolio rather than the quantity of patents that makes an IP owner a potent investment. Enter Endeavor IP Inc. (OTCBB:ENIP).

  • [By James E. Brumley]

They say a company is judged by the company it keeps. What's less said - though never disputed - is that a company is equally judged by the kind of talent it can attract... winning people tend to only work for winning companies. In that light, the fact that the newest chief of Endeavor IP Inc. (OTCBB:ENIP) is a former executive from the ranks of Rambus Inc. (NASDAQ:RMBS) and Tessera Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSRA) should underscore just how seriously the market should be taking ENIP. RMBS and TSRA didn't become large powerhouses by hiring folks who don't know what they're doing, and conversely, the fact that a former Rambus and Tessera Technologies guy was willing to step into the unknown and take the helm at Endeavor IP speaks volumes! about th! e potential of the young company's IP portfolio.

5 Best Penny Stocks To Own For 2016

NEW YORK (TheStreet -- Cancelled stocks are the walking dead in penny stock land.

They are set to die but continue to trade. These stocks are usually collateral damage from a bankruptcy ruling based on creditors demands to protect their assets, usually in bonds. Most often, a judge will divvy up the company's carcass, leaving the largest slice to bondholders while equity investors watch helplessly as a stock is cancelled.

Most sane investors would question why in such cases anyone would buy a soon-to-be-cancelled. The answer is simple: the low price, often in pennies, seems too good to pass up.

"A bunch of people trade in the Q's," said Zvi Rhine of Sabra Capital Partners, referring to companies in bankruptcy which have a "Q" added to their ticker. "Every now and then a Q stock will rip." Cathy Hershcopf is a corporate bankruptcy lawyer at Cooley LLP who said she's always surprised that investors trade in equities that have almost no value and little prospects for improvement. "When a company declares bankruptcy, there usually isn't enough money left for the creditors to be paid in full, much less give any value to the equity," Hershcopf said. Investors often lose money because they fall prey to speculation and rumor, the currency of Internet chat rooms. A common rumor is that an 'equity committee' will be formed to save a stock, thereby pushing the shares higher and sucking-in unsuspecting buyers. However, these rumors rarely pan out. Once a judge hears from creditors and declares a cancellation, the stock's life comes to an abrupt end, and shareholders lose all their money. Rick Szambel of Albert Fried specializes in bankrupt stocks and says he's a frequent target of the bankrupt-stock rumor mongering. "Even when I'm right, I am criticized as being wrong,'' Szambel said. "I quote directly from the disclosure documents, so I'm not wrong. Most regular people don't know where to find these documents or know how to understand them." Nonetheless, anyone can say anything on the Internet, Szambel said. "Just because someone says it on the Internet, doesn't mean it's true."

This split among industry segments has created some value opportunities as those companies with high exposure to PCs are very cheap. And while the move towards smart phones and tablets may continue, the PC is not dead — demand will pick up along with the economy.

When business development companies trade substantially below their last-reported net asset values, or NAV, repurchasing shares can be quite beneficial for shareholders. A repurchase allows a BDC to essentially acquire a portfolio of loans and investments at prices below their stated value.

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

But one concern is that investors are paying too much for BDCs. Like Ares, peers Prospect Capital (NASDAQ: PSEC  ) and Fifth Street Finance (NASDAQ: FSC  ) also carry share prices that are higher than the net value of the assets on their books. Yet Ares trades at a substantially higher premiums to NAV than Prospect or Fifth Street, suggesting that they're more comfortable with the quality of Ares' assets compared to its rivals.
