When I keep reading how difficult the lending environment is for midsize private companies, it only makes sense to take a hard look at the business development companies (BDCs).

It’s been a catch 22 for the banks. They are awash in cash — but after getting shell-shocked by the recession, they aren’t willing to put that cash in the system in the form of new small-business loans, as the Fed had intended under its current policy. This conundrum drives businesses to borrow from BDCs at 10% to 15% rates with equity kickers attached to every deal, translating into fat dividends for investors, who get 90% of the income generated by these cash machine-like assets.

Top 10 Mid Cap Stocks To Invest In 2015: Cintas Corp (CTAS)

Advisors' Opinion:

    Cintas (NASDAQ: CTAS  )
The leading provider of workplace uniforms is a pretty fair proxy for hiring practices. If companies are increasing or decreasing the number of employees it should reflect in the number of uniforms that Cintas is providing.

Another earnings short-squeeze prospect is business support services player Cintas (CTAS), which is set to release numbers on Thursday after the market close. Wall Street analysts, on average, expect Cintas to report revenue of $1.10 billion on earnings of 63 cents per share.

The current short interest as a percentage of the float for Cintas stands at 5.6%. That means that out of the 102.38 million shares in the tradable float, 5.70 million shares are sold short by the bears. The bears have also been increasing their bets from the last reporting period by 2.5%, or by about 136,000 shares. If the bears get caught pressing their bets into a strong quarter, then shares of CTAS could move up sharply higher post-earnings as the bears move to cover some of those bets.

From a technical perspective, CTAS is currently trending above both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, which is bullish. This stock has been uptrending strong for the last six months, with shares moving higher from its low of $42.35 to its recent high of $50.80 a share. During that uptrend, shares of CTAS have been consistently making higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. That move has now pushed shares of CTAS within range of triggering a big breakout trade post-earnings.

If you're bullish on CTAS, then I would wait until after its report and look for long-biased trades if this stock manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $61 to $62.27 a share and then once it takes its 52-week high at $50.80 a share with high volume. Look for volume on that move that hits near or above its three-month average action of 458,136 shares. If that breakout hits, then CTAS will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that breakout are $60 to $65 a share.

I would simply avoid CTAS or look for short-biased trades if after earnings it fails to trigge

Small cap Sodastream International Ltd (NASDAQ: SODA), an Israeli based developer, manufacturer and marketer ofhome beverage carbonation systems, has attracted its share of hype over both its products and its stock, but could other small cap water stocks like Primo Water Corporation (NASDAQ: PRMW), Puresafe Water Systems Inc (OTCMKTS: PSWS) and Alkaline Water Company Inc (OTCBB: WTER) attract a similar following? After all, Sodastream International has managed to create a significant amount of buzz from consumers, investors and even short sellers because it theworld's largest manufacturer, distributor and marketer of home carbonation systems as itsbrands are sold in over 60,000 retail stores in 45 countries. Sodastream International is also up 45.7% since the start of the year, up 70.2% over the past year and up 99.3% since November 2010, but shares did spike up to the $75 level in the middle of 2011 and now trade at the $63 level.

As mentioned, Kroger is still swallowing Harris Teeter and has said it needs time to make more acquisitions. VTR Dividend Yield: 5.16%

  • [By Brad Thomas]

For current investors, I still think the recent 10% price reduction still represents a premium valuation - of mispriced risk - and I would consider a rotation into a more risk-aligned healthcare REIT like Healthcare Trust of America (HTA) yielding 4.82% or Ventas, Inc. (VTR) yielding 3.47%. (See my HTA article here and my VTR article here).

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Roberto Pedone]

One technology player that insiders are snapping up a large amount of stock in here is Tessera Technologies (TSRA), which, through its subsidiaries, develops, licenses and delivers miniaturization technologies and products for electronic devices worldwide. Insiders are buying this stock into decent strength, since shares are up 19% so far in 2013.

Tessera Technologies has a market cap of $1.06 billion and an enterprise value of $641 million. This stock trades at a reasonable valuation, with a forward price-to-earnings of 12.15. Its estimated growth rate for the next quarter is 237.5%, and for next year it's pegged at 374.6%. This is a cash-rich company, since the total cash position on its balance sheet is $380.51 million and its total debt is zero. This stock currently sports a dividend yield of 2.1%.

A director just bought 400,000 shares, or about $7.57 million worth of stock, at $18.79 to $19.11 a share.

From a technical perspective, TSRA is currently trending below its 50-day moving average and above its 200-day moving average, which is neutral trendwise. This stock has been downtrending for the last month and change, with shares dropping from its high of $22.59 to its recent low of $18.62 a share. During that downtrend, shares of TSRA have been making mostly lower highs and lower lows, which is bearish technical price action. That said, shares of TSRA have started to rebound off that $18.62 low and it's starting to move within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade.

If you're bullish on TSRA, then I would look for long-biased trades as long as this stock is trending above some near-term support levels at $18.62 to its 200-day at $18.14 and then once it takes out its 50-day at $20.77 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above that level with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 341,611 shares. If we get that move soon, then TSRA will set up to re-test or possibly take

What: Shares of RealPage (NASDAQ: RP  ) have been rising since an early morning plunge that shaved more than 11% off their value, and now seem to have stabilized at a loss of about 4% from the previous trading day.
