Deutsche Bank’s Mike Baker and Adam Sindler see tougher times ahead for Home Depot and Lowe’s following the bad news from Lumber Liquidators and Tractor Supply (TSCO):

Retail Stocks to Watch No. 6: Tractor Supply Co. (Nasdaq: TSCO)
One-year retail sales growth: 10.7%
Total 2013 U.S. sales: $5.1 billion
Tractor Supply had 1,276 retail farm and ranch stores in the United States as of 2013, which was an increase of about 9% from the stores it had the year before. In addition to the new stores, Tractor Supply also started selling more perishable items last year, such as vegetables, herbs, and fruit trees. Online retailers have had little impact on TSCO, as many of the company's products are difficult to ship. TSCO closed at $67.16. - [By Ben Levisohn]
Some investors…believe that we are too negative on Sears Holdings’ outlook…So let accept their math and take the low end of their assumed improvements. Based on that, we would add $1 billion to EBITDA from initiatives, which adding to trailing twelve months would give them positive EBITDA (yes you read that right) of $300 million. Here is the problem. The bulls on Sears argue for the most part that the value is in the real estate and brand names. If Mr. Lampert is trying to make it as an operator we should value them as such, but that’s a bigger problem. Using a positive $300 million EBITDA, that would imply a multiple of 29.5x lets say in 2017 to give them time for the turnaround. That would place their multiple well above anything we cover, including our best growth names such as The Container Store (TCS), Tractor Supply (TSCO)…Lumber Liquidators (LL), and CarMax (KMX). So if one accepts the turnaround and we give them an eight multiple of EBITDA three years out, a somewhat generous multiple for a non-top-line grower, then the value of the equity would be negative. Hmm. Maybe the company should explore the asset sale. Said another way, this remains a significantly overvalued stock and while we are not moving to a negative target price, we maintain our $20 price target.

Aeropostale (NYSE: ARO ) will release its quarterly report on Wednesday, and investors have suffered greatly since mid-summer as the teen retailer's dismal results pushed the stock down sharply. Yet even as rivals American Eagle Outfitters (NYSE: AEO ) and Abercrombie & Fitch (NYSE: ANF ) have seen much the same challenges, Aeropostale is working hard to try to bounce back and avoid getting mired in losses for years to come.

David Tulis/AP It's beginning to look a lot like ... the day after Christmas? On the day before Christmas, retailers turned shoppers' attention to the day after the holiday. Amazon.com (AMZN) already is offering "after Christmas" deals of up to 70 percent off clothes and 60 percent off some electronics. Old Navy (GPS) is running TV ads that its "after-holiday sale starts early" with discounts of up to 75 percent off. And CVS (CVS) was selling a wine cabinet for $10 off at $39.99 and three fleece throws for $9.99 on Christmas Eve. Heather Nadler, 38, stopped by the CVS in Decatur, Ga., on Tuesday, searching for stuffed animals for her children. But she still plans to hit up sales after Christmas. "I'll probably start shopping for me at that point," she said. Stores usually wait until after Christmas to offer discounts of up to 70 percent or more on holiday merchandise that didn't sell. But Americans who are still worried about the economy have held tightly to their purse strings this year, and store sales have fallen for the past three consecutive weeks. The pre-Christmas deals come as retailers are feeling pressure to attract Americans into stores during the final week of what's typically the busiest shopping period of the year. The two-month stretch that begins on Nov. 1 is important because retailers can make up to 40 percent of their annual sales during that time. Sales at U.S. stores dropped 3.1 percent to $42.7 billion for the week that ended on Sunday compared with the same week last year, according to ShopperTrak, which tracks data at 40,000 locations. That follows a decline of 2.9 percent and 0.8 percent during the first and second weeks of the month, respectively. Stores had a problem even getting Americans into stores, let alone getting them to spend. The number of shoppers fell 21.2 percent during the week that ended on Sunday, according to ShopperTrak. Abercrombie & Fitch (NYSE: ANF ) has been a serial offender when it comes to shareholder abuse in the executive pay arena. It recently lost its say-on-pay vote when a pathetic 19% of its shareholders voted in favor of CEO Mike Jeffries' pay. In fact, shareholder support for Abercrombie's compensation scheme has been deteriorating over the course of several years.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Seth Jayson]
Margins matter. The more Seacor Holdings (NYSE: CKH ) keeps of each buck it earns in revenue, the more money it has to invest in growth, fund new strategic plans, or (gasp!) distribute to shareholders. Healthy margins often separate pretenders from the best stocks in the market. That's why we check up on margins at least once a quarter in this series. I'm looking for the absolute numbers, so I can compare them to current and potential competitors, and any trend that may tell me how strong Seacor Holdings's competitive position could be.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Rupert Hargreaves]
Pet-related companies are highly sought after
Having said that, it would appear that in comparison to the rest of the pet-related sector, Zoetis is fairly valued. Peer MWI Veterinary Supply (NASDAQ: MWIV ) trades at 27 times forward earnings, and again the company is highly defensive, engaging in the distribution of animal health products to veterinarians in the United States and the United Kingdom. Veterinary supply is exposed to the same demand factors as Zoetis -- greater demand for animal treatments will lead to more demand for the distribution of animal health products. - [By Sean Williams]

But all good things must end, and shares of the company have dipped by more than 20% from their all-time high set earlier this year.

But competition has been heating up in the Chinese online marketplace industry. Domestically, competitors like Alibaba and Jingdong have made major strategic moves of their own to boost their sales. Meanwhile, Amazon.com's (NASDAQ: AMZN ) Amazon China service has been trying to expand its presence, and although Amazon doesn't break out its international results by region, it has been willing to operate at much lower operating margins globally than in its North American segment. That's consistent with Amazon's typical competitive strategy of cutting prices as far as possible to stave off competition. Moreover, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT ) has also entered the market, opening its third online store in China back in March rather than partnering with Amazon or Dangdang. That signals Microsoft's intention to try to build up its own online ecosystem in China in order to capture more of the mobile market there.

What do Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN ) and Domino's Pizza (NYSE: DPZ ) have in common? Both companies will now deliver food to your door in Seattle and Los Angeles, after the former company expanded its AmazonFresh grocery deliveries to only its second metropolitan area. Beyond that, there isn't much similarity between the two companies -- yet. However, in a few years, the men and women who schlep the hot pizza or cold produce to your door in hopes of a decent tip might just be replaced by unmanned drone helicopters.

Send this stock back to the kitchen
I admit to already being hyper-critical of the restaurant industry because of cutthroat pricing practices among peers, strained consumer spending because of higher payroll taxes, and the always looming threat that food prices will soar faster than the industry can raise prices. These provide for me more than enough reasons to suggest sending Bob Evans Farms (NASDAQ: BOBE ) back to the kitchen. - [By Holly LaFon]
