I think the flagship of any portfolio that has a capital appreciation mandate ought to be a superbly run large-cap growth fund. There's no lack of them at Fidelity and my model portfolios reflect what I think are the best of breed in a prize-winning herd, says Jim Lowell, editor of Fidelity Investor.
First, from my perspective, Fidelity's growth funds pursue the following course: Growth and Value really mean the X-factor, wherein managers perceive mispriced value to be had from overlooked earnings growth potential. A broad brush, but it covers the barn and most of the horses inside.
I like large-cap growth, especially with a domestic tilt. In general, it's hard to not pick a winning large-cap growth fund at Fidelity, but it gets a bit trickier when you want the best of the best. Here's some of my buy-rated picks.

Another big gainer today was Visa Inc. (NYSE: V) which traded up 1.59% at $215.50 in a 52-week range of $161.27 to $235.50. The Dow highest priced stock slipped initially Monday morning as investors seemed worried about the suit filed against the company last week by Walmart. But the stock popped back up as quickly as it had dropped and remained at a higher level the rest of the day. Volume was about two-thirds the daily average of around 3.3 million shares traded.

Visa (NYSE: V ) saw its global brand value surge 46%, to $56 billion. The company is extremely global, operating in more than 200 nations, and it's poised to profit as more and more people and businesses shift from cash transactions to electronic ones. Its presence in emerging markets is also a good thing to see among stock picks, as such economies are growing rapidly -- and for Visa, that means more people beginning to use plastic for purchases. Meanwhile, our recovering economy is leading to an uptick in credit payments. The fast-growing company's forward P/E is 21, well below its five-year average of 41. Visa is far bigger than its rivals, althoughMasterCardis doing particularly well globally.

The U.S. economy grew, sort of, at a miniscule annual rate of 0.1 percent in the first quarter, according to the Commerce Dept. This preliminary reading, the first of three, was far below pessimistic expectations. This underperformance has occurred several times since the on-again, off-again recovery officially began in June 2009.
No wonder U.S. government bond yields have declined this year, contrary to most expectations, with the 10-year Treasury going from 3 percent to as low as 2.6 percent.
The first quarter’s economic weakness was attributed primarily to a 7.6 percent decline in exports, partly because of economic weakness in Europe and Asia. Poor weather, a favorite excuse for everything that went wrong during the winter, probably played a part in the export slump.
Also noteworthy, however: Business spending on equipment fell at a 5.5 percent annual pace in the first three months of the year, the largest decline since 2009.
Regardless of the causes, the tepid (to be generous) GDP reading marks a continuation of the still-sluggish growth in the current five-year economic expansion.
The report came right before the Federal Reserve announced that it is continuing to reduce, or taper, its bond purchases to $45 billion a month, from the original $85 billion. The Fed says it’s starting to see faster growth after the harsh winter.
The Fed also maintained its guidance on short-term interest rates, saying they would remain near zero for a “considerable time” after the bond-buying program ends later this year. The current expectation is that the Fed won’t start to raise interest rates until well into 2015.
However, evidence of a possible economic rebound came the next day, May 2. The federal government jobs report for April showed a jump of 288,000, with a sharp decline in the official unemployment rate to 6.3 percent.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Jonas Elmerraji]
Despite a shaky start to 2013, Apple (AAPL) has been on a tear since the summer. I've been a fan of the stock for a while now too -- and I've still have a position in AAPL shares. After spending November in sideways-mode, AAPL looks ready to move higher again.
After moving up close to 20% off of September's swing low, Apple has been consolidating sideways in a rectangle pattern. The rectangle is a price setup that's formed by a horizontal resistance level above shares at $535, and another horizontal support level down at $510. The rectangle gets its name because it essentially "boxes in" shares. The high-probability trade comes when Apple exits its channel a move through $535 is a buy signal.
Apple's relative strength, a measure of this stock's performance versus the broad market, has been on fire for the last six months. From a statistical standpoint, an uptrend in RS is a very good indication that shares will continue to do well in the medium-term.
I'm holding on from here.

Scott Eells/Bloomberg via Getty ImagesHubert Joly, president and chief executive officer of Best Buy Co. NEW YORK -- Hubert Joly, CEO of Best Buy, sold some stock in order to help pay for his divorce settlement. In a regulatory filing, Joly said he exercised some 350,467 stock options at $18.02 a share, for a total of about $6.3 million. He then sold those shares, plus other holdings in the consumer electronics chain, for a total of 451,153 shares for $16.7 million. That means he made about $10.4 million from the sale. Best Buy Co. The chain said that he still owns stock that is substantially more than the 140,000 share ownership target that is part of its executive stock ownership guidelines. Last month, Best Buy reported second-quarter results that topped analyst estimates as it slashed costs and worked to make its website more competitive. The retailer has been shuttering underperforming stores and revamping others to offset tough competition from discounters and online retailers. Under Joly, who took the helm of the company a year ago, Best Buy has instituted a price-matching policy, opened more in-store areas for manufacturers such as Apple (AAPL) and Samsung, and invested more to train employees. Shares of Best Buy added 5 cents to $37.97 in afternoon trading. Earlier in the session, the stock hit $38, its highest point since December 2010. It could be lousy timing or a case of misusing a caffeinated kick, but McDonald's (NYSE: MCD ) is hoping that its coffee can woo retail shoppers next year. The world's largest burger chain is teaming up with Kraft Foods (NASDAQ: KRFT ) to sell packaged bags of its McCafe ground and whole-bean coffee through supermarkets by early next year. It will also offer up its java blasts as pods for single-serve machines.
