One of the most topsy-turvy holiday seasons since the invention of the shopping mall begins on Thanksgiving with Hanukkah. Wait, make that, it begins on Hanukkah with Thanksgiving.
No, there won't be eight days of Thanksgiving this year or one day of Hanukkah. But the confusion is understandable. This also is the very first holiday season when Thanksgiving Day becomes the new Black Friday, except it's on Thursday night.
Holiday shoppers and sellers have another headache: a serious seasonal shopping squeeze. There are, after all, a scant 26 shopping days between Thanksgiving and Christmas, which means less time to buy and sell stuff and less time to beg, bribe or bamboozle consumers into diving for the deals.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Geoff Gannon]
This isn really true. A stock that is expected to have constant losses in the future but has earnings today should see no relationship between its current price and its past 12 months of earnings. In reality, there will always be some relationship. Some people buy things like Research in Motion (RIMM) as part of a regular habit of betting that the market gets overly pessimistic when it knocks a company P/E down deep into the single digits. They may be right. There are always some value investors like this who buy things purely because they are statistically cheap.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Jim Jubak]
But truly positive reports, like the 11 cents a share earnings surprise at ASML Holding (ASML), with revenue growth of 81% year over year that put revenue $22 million above Wall Street estimates, have been light on the ground, so far, this quarter.
- [By Ben Axler]
We also note there has been a healthy pace of M&A consolidation in the semiconductor capital equipment industry in the past few years. For example, ASML Holdings (ASML) recently acquired Cymer and Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TYO: 8038) acquired FSI International. Lastly, we noted previously that Applied Materials (AMAT) acquired Varian Semiconductor in 2011, a close competitor to Axcelis. Our analysis suggests that the minimum valuation for a company in the industry is 1.2x, 11.0x and 2.2x revenues, EPS, and tangible book value, respectively. Furthermore, the average premium paid to the stock price has been a minimum of 35%.
- [By Corinne Gretler]
ASML Holding NV (ASML) climbed 2.5 percent to 52.55 euros. Europe largest semiconductor-equipment supplier posted first- quarter sales of 892 million euros, topping the 874 million-euro analyst estimate. Molycorp also needs to contend with the fact that there's a limited market for the metals it will mine at the same timeLynas (NASDAQOTH: LYSDY ) isalready out there producing them in Malaysia, let alone what China itself is bringing to the market. To think it can substantially crack the market at a profitable price in sufficient quantities, even if it does become a low (or the lowest) cost producer, is wishful thinking of the highest order.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Dan Caplinger]
Ever since its spinoff from Altria (NYSE: MO ) , Philip Morris has benefited from higher growth prospects from its international sales. At the same time that Altria, Lorillard, and (NYSE: LO ) other U.S. tobacco companies have struggled to keep their revenues moving higher, the argument is that other countries with less regulation offer better environments to foster sales growth for Philip Morris. That's true to an extent, although the edge that Philip Morris has had over its peers has narrowed considerably in recent years and is slated to continue to shrink in the future.

LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Japanese stocks have ended with losses in every session this week, and sure enough, the Nikkei Average (JP:NIK) was down 0.6% in early Friday trade, though off an opening 0.8% defecit, while the Topix carried a 0.7% loss. Overnight losses for the U.S. and further strength in the yen (with the dollar falling to 楼101.28 from 楼101.56 a day earlier) helped drag the market lower, as did results from Fast Retailing Co. (JP:9983) (FRCOF) , the shares of which hold the heaviest weighting on Nikkei Average. Fast Retailing said that while its Uniqlo brand was doing great business, weakness for its J Brand luxury demin label helped send September-May profit down 4% and prompted another cut to Fast's full-year outlook. Consequently, its shares traded 0.7% lower, though rivals Takashimaya Co. (JP:8233) and J. Front Retailing Co. (JP:3086) (JFROF) also saw losses of 0.6% and 0.5%, respectively. Among other decliners, Sony Corp. (JP:6758) (SNE) lost 0.7%, Toshiba Corp. (JP:6502) (TOSYY) fell 2.1%, Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. (JP:7012) (KWHIY) fell 1.5%, Toyota Motor Corp.
